In 2017, the Adoption Tax Credit faced a perilous situation, with the prospect of it being eliminated by Congress during tax reform.
Through the Adoption Tax Credit Working Group’s Save the Adoption Tax Credit campaign and the strength of our grassroots adoption advocates, Congress heard us loud and clear – the Adoption Tax Credit is an investment in children and families that must be preserved. Congress agreed, restoring the credit in the House’s bill and never touching the credit in the Senate’s bill. Ultimately, the Adoption Tax Credit was entirely preserved under tax reform, at a time when many other parts of the tax code were changed.
